MEDICAL DERMATOLOGY
Robin Evans MD and her team are experts in treating a variety of medical skin diseases. With a wealth of experience, we operate on the principle that all patients are unique and require a truly customized approach for optimal results. Our providers move beyond standard diagnostics by learning about you and your lifestyle to ensure that the steps taken on the road to recovery are the right ones.
Our medical services include the treatment of complex, chronic, and acute skin conditions such as psoriasis, rosacea, eczema, warts, rashes, and skin tags. We also understand the role that allergies and sensitivities play, so we offer food sensitivity and skin patch testing. Most importantly, we emphasize the early detection and diagnosis of skin cancer with our annual skin exams.
TREATMENT QUICK LIST
SKIN CANCER
With more than one million Americans developing skin cancer each year, it is the most prevalent of all cancers. The best protection against skin cancer caused by sunlight is to protect the skin against over-exposure. However, when the damage has been done or the cause is rooted in genetic factors, surgery is usually necessary to remove the affected area. By performing regular self-exams and visiting our practice for annual, full-body skin examinations, you have the best chance to detect skin cancer at an early stage. This dramatically improves the effectiveness of treatments and surgery. Early detection is the best possible cure.
PRECANCEROUS ACTINIC KERATOSIS
On identifying precancerous actinic keratosis (an irregularity which could develop into skin cancer), we use freezing, topical treatments, and photodynamic therapy (PDT) using the Dusa Blue Light with Levulan. This process treats precancers that are present on the face, chest, hands, and arms, or any other sun-exposed parts of the body.
ACNE
We formulate a unique plan based on the type and severity of your acne, your treatment preferences, and experiences. We often employ a combination approach that may include holistic treatments. When indicated, we run KBMO FIT food sensitivity testing and recommend dietary changes to complement your overall skin-care program. Accutane is offered as a last resort. Many of our aesthetic treatments are used to reduce the visible damage caused by acne.
SKIN RASH TREATMENT
There are many types of skin rashes caused by skin irritation. Our expert team will diagnose your condition, perform skin biopsies when indicated, and prescribe the appropriate therapy to treat your rash whether it's poison ivy, contact dermatitis, hives, or other dermatological eruption.
ECZEMA
We offer unique treatment plans for all types of eczema, including childhood atopic dermatitis, allergic eczema, contact dermatitis, and hand eczema. We offer in-depth testing, which includes contact allergy patch testing and food sensitivity testing. This helps us target the cause of the rash and recommend a comprehensive care program that not only treats the irritation but also prevents against future flare-ups. This typically involves topical therapies and dietary recommendations. We also suggest day-to-day skin care regimens including less allergenic and less irritating cleansers, moisturizers, and other skin care products.
PSORIASIS
We offer a comprehensive range of therapeutic options to treat and help prevent psoriasis in patients of all ages. This often includes topical therapies, intralesional injections, oral medications like Otezla, and at-home injectables such as Enbrel and Humira. To complement prescribed treatments, we always recommend supplements and a personal dietary program that aims to reduce your susceptibility to flare-ups. We also recommend food sensitivity testing when appropriate.
ALLERGIES & SENSITIVITIES
Allergies and sensitivities are estimated to be present in 60% of the American population. Symptoms may include not only the typical asthma, sneezing, and hives, but also more chronic symptoms like eczema, skin rashes, fatigue, and depression. Reactions may be immediate or delayed making detection more challenging. We offer comprehensive food allergy/sensitivity testing with the KBMO FIT food sensitivity testing series, which screens for dozens of antibodies to food allergens, spices, and an array of other ingestants. It also includes patch testing (developed by the North American Clinical Dermatology series) for skin allergies, which is more comprehensive than the standard TRUE test. Rotation and elimination diets may be implemented based on the results of food testing. Skin allergen avoidance recommendations will be provided to help guide you in the overall avoidance of skin contact allergies. As members of the American Contact Dermatitis Society, we offer expert guidance in this area.
WARTS & MOLLUSCUM
These virally-induced conditions can be challenging to treat, but we have seen great results with the use of therapies including freezing, burning, topical medications, lasers, and Candida injections. We pair these approaches with dietary recommendations and supplements to offer immune system support and to prevent recurrence.
HAIR LOSS / ALOPECIA
The causes of hair loss are diverse and treatment should vary depending on your specific needs. We take an extensive medical history and conduct an examination to help determine your specific type of hair loss. In some cases, we take a biopsy of the affected area to assist in accurate diagnosis. Once the diagnosis has been made, treatment is targeted toward the cause of your specific condition. For those wishing to treat alopecia areata, we use injections and topical medications with generally excellent results. We also do laboratory testing to rule out associated medical conditions. We also offer PRP.
HYPERHIDROSIS
This condition of severe primary sweating, most commonly of the underarms, palms, or soles of the feet, is often poorly managed with topical therapies. Hyperhidrosis can be embarrassing and expensive to self-manage. Stained and damaged clothing can result in excessive dry-cleaning bills and ruined wardrobes. Today, there is a simple solution: injections of Botox into the affected areas. Treatment typically results in effective elimination or reduction of excessive sweating for a period of six months. Treatments are usually painless with the prior application of a topical anesthetic.
